Nanny Average Benefits Offered New York, New Jersey, Connecticut

Domestic employment benefits are negotiable between employer (family) and employee (nanny), however offering more benefits results in a happier employee who will in turn value her job and be determined to do their best.  This will in turn save families frustration, turnover and money in the long run.

Nanny Salary - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut

Pay will vary based on applicants experience, training, job duties, number of children and ages of children, requirements, salary history and simply how much you like them.  You do get what you pay for.

Full Time Nanny - $550-850 per week

Part Time Nanny -  $15-20 per hour

Health Insurance

Family may agree to pay all or put specific dollar amount of the domestic’s health insurance.  Families may offer a probationary period before health insurance is offered.  Health insurance is usually offered only for long term, full time positions and majority of nannies and housekeepers do not expect it.  Many may have health coverage from another source (spouse, state, etc.)

Paid Vacation

Full Time – 2-4 weeks per year

Part Time – 1-2 weeks per year

Families should be clear as to how paid vacation can be taken.  Will it be in connection with their own vacation?  If so, the family should offer at least one week of paid vacation that will be at the nanny/housekeeper’s discretion.

Families should pay for all of their vacation time where the employee would normally be working.  Employee should of course give ample notice of any vacation time requested.

 Paid holidays

All Federal holidays should be paid holidays.  If they are requested to work on a federal holiday, they should be paid at a rate of time and a half or double time.

Room and Board

If you are hiring a live in provide private room, TV, transportation and food.

Extras

Optional nanny and housekeeper benefits are nice but not expected (Gym memberships, eye exams, dental cleanings, etc.)

Transportation

Providing a car for employee to get to and from work is a benefit that may be offered if necessary.  Use of employer car to transport child/children is a benefit that is necessary if driving while working is required.  If she’ll drive her own car while working - car insurance and/or pay for gas/mileage may be expected.
